26th October 2012, Basingstoke, UK, – Cloud application security company, SaaSID, has been selected as an approved supplier of Specialist Cloud Services to G-Cloud, the UK Government Cloud Computing procurement framework. G-Cloud is designed to enable the UK public sector to benefit from new technologies more quickly and to deliver economies of scale across government departments when ICT programmes are rolled out. Suppliers have been selected after submitting their services to the framework and undergoing a rigorous selection process.
SaaSID’s technology, Cloud Application Manager, enables the use of cloud-based applications by securely authenticating users, then managing and auditing their use of the application. Cloud Application Manager easily integrates with existing directories, including Active Directory, LDAP and OpenID and can perform policy-based redaction of potentially sensitive information presented by web applications, or restrict features according to a user’s role. This helps public sector organisations to address the governance, risk and compliance issues associated with the use of web applications for handling government data.
The G-Cloud Programme is a cross government initiative involving the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and the CIO Delivery Board as part of the UK Government ICT Strategy. Its initial objective is to facilitate the adoption of cloud-based services to central and local government. The G-Cloud framework will assist government departments, local authorities and the wider public sector to review and purchase suitable cloud-based services through the government’s CloudStore. Solutions that have been added to the framework will be searchable in the CloudStore from 26th October 2012.
Marie-Helene Durif, Head of Sourcing & Category Management - ICT, at the Government Procurement Service, commented, “At the Government Procurement Service our priority is to provide procurement savings for organisations across the UK public sector. The inclusion of SaaSID to the Specialist Cloud Services framework will strengthen our offering and provide public sector buyers with a tried and tested route to achieve value for money.”
Ed Macnair, CEO of SaaSID, commented, “We are delighted to have been accepted as a G-Cloud supplier. One of the programme’s stated aims is to procure information and communications technology that encourages a dynamic marketplace and supports emerging suppliers. As a young UK company, we are encouraged to see that the G-Cloud procurement framework is meeting its goals of including emerging suppliers’ solutions. In doing so, the public sector will be able to harness the full benefits of the cloud and select the best solutions to serve cross government requirements. SaaSID was founded by executives experienced in supplying CESG-accredited information security and auditing technology to the public sector. We look forward to building on that foundation to help government employees to follow best practice in data governance, while benefiting from the flexibility and cost efficiency of cloud-based applications.”
