Tely Labs signs with Imago Group for distribution

$

Imago Group plc, Europe’s largest video solutions company, has announced a new  distribution agreement with Tely Labs, the US-based pioneer of simple, secure and affordable video conferencing and collaboration solutions.  The new signing will complement Imago’s existing portfolio, providing entry-level products ideal for small meeting and break-out rooms and for those working remotely from home. The agreement covers the UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Holland and South Africa.

There are two core solutions in the Tely Labs range: the telyHD Pro and the tely HD Base Edition, both of which will be available through Imago. The telyHD Pro delivers a high quality video conferencing experience at unbeatable value and has been certified as “Polycom-Ready” by Polycom, having satisfied extensive interoperability requirements. The telyHD Base Edition has been designed to deliver affordable point-to-point HD Skype video calling and it can be upgraded to telyHD Pro. Prices for the Pro start at £429 and for the Base Edition at £179.

The company, which was founded in 2010 and last year achieved record market share growth, focuses on delivering business-class features and ease of use with an affordable price point. This has made it popular with SMB customers and enabled Tely Labs to impact on the education, healthcare, legal services, manufacturing and public sector markets.  According to a recent report by Wainhouse Research, Tely Labs grew to an estimated 18 percent unit share of the single-codec videoconferencing endpoint market in North America. Further validation of the company’s position came from Frost & Sullivan Analyst Roopam Jain, who noted, “Tely Labs leads in the small/secondary conference room systems market.”*

Imago’s appointment to manage distribution through its established channel of specialist resellers and systems integrators follows Tely Labs’ appointment of Amit Walia as VP of Sales for EMEA, earlier this year.

Ian Vickerage, Managing Director at Imago Group, said: “Tely Labs is the one to watch. The company has made significant impact on the video conferencing market with its excellent value, high quality solutions and has found a niche that will help it grow its business in the UK,  Europe and South Africa over the next few years. The fact that the products are certified as interoperable with Polycom will add extra weight as our partners introduce the Tely Labs solutions to customers.”

eUKhost celebrates World Backup Day with double storage offer

$

31st March 2014, Leeds, UK – eUKhost, a leading web hosting provider in the UK, has announced its pledge for World Backup Day 2014 and will be celebrating by offering double storage on its remote backup plans and 25 GB of free backup space for 6 months with all new cloud hosting orders until April 5.

Remote backups are defined as a necessity in the hosting industry and facilitate the restoration of data onto a new server in the event that a disaster at the primary facility has severely impaired the network or hardware.  Double storage will let customers not just take backups of their critical data, but will give them the chance to take backups of their entire server, which should put them in a better position to restore service faster in the event that data loss does occur.

Cloud hosting in itself represents an ideal data protection solution. In a boost to guarantee data integrity further, customers purchasing eUKhost’s VMWare, Hyper-V or revolutionary eNlight cloud platforms will be provided with 25 GB free backup space for 6 months that can be used to safeguard customer data.

March 31st has been marked as World Backup Day and brings together a number of names in the technology industry to promote the importance of backups to end-users. Robert King, Managing Director at eUKhost Ltd comments: “It is important for businesses to perform backups on a regular basis in order to minimise the level of loss that could be induced because of system failure.”  He adds: “World Backup Day provides us with an opportunity to promote the importance of backups as technology becomes an ever increasing reliance on our everyday lives.”

“We hope by offering double storage space on Remote Backup plans and 25 GB free storage to new cloud customers, we will be able to promote the cause and encourage our customers to backup more of their data so they don’t have to worry about data loss”, Robert said.

Both offers will be running until 5th April and can be automatically redeemed during the order process for a Remote Backup plan or cloud hosting plan. Find out more here.

The ghost of Windows XP to haunt 77 per cent of organisations after April deadline

$

0

Daresbury, 1 April 2014 – Over three quarters (77 per cent) of UK organisations will have Windows XP running somewhere in their IT estate after the April 8th end of support deadline according to independent research commissioned by UK software company AppSense. The survey also revealed that over two-thirds (68 per cent) of organisations had no plans to pay for extended support despite repeated warnings about the vulnerability of the 12 year-old operating system to exploits and malware.

The survey, of 100 UK IT decision makers, also suggested that while Windows XP is still present in the majority of organisations, it is very much in the minority in terms of penetration with these businesses. 87 per cent of those surveyed had less than 25 per cent of desktop estate still running Windows XP, while on average it is estimated that overall penetration of the operating system is just under 13 per cent.

The survey also highlighted that 84 per cent of XP users planned to have totally migrated from the platform within the next 12 months, suggesting that there is a willingness to move but on an organisations own terms. However, of those not paying for extended support, 70 per cent of respondents were either not very or not at all concerned about security after April’s cut-off date.

“There seems to be a lack of concern amongst UK organisations around the possible dangers of running XP after April 8th,” said Simon Townsend, Chief Technologist, AppSense EMEA. “Part of the reason for lack of concern would appear to be the low level of dependency currently on the XP operating system. While it is still present in many organisations, the numbers would suggest that it is very much on the periphery.

“It might be the case that an XP machine is running a print server, or some other application which is not entirely obvious. The reality is though, that one machine could potentially put an entire network at risk and without adequate protection it could be a step into the unknown for UK businesses.

“While it’s clear that organisations are committed to getting off the Windows XP platform in the medium term, they are opening their organisations to potential threats by leaving systems unsupported. This figure also suggests that organisations want to get the migration process right and will not be rushed as they head towards a deadline. From my experience and involvement with organisations to date, the priority is getting off Windows XP, but many are still planning or are unsure about how to progress. It’s a balancing act between planning the migration, but also protecting whilst you migrate.”

“As with most commercial software, Windows XP has had a long history of security vulnerabilities and exploits, so the apparent lack of concern around the platform following the end of official support is surprising,” said Bob Tarzey, Analyst and Director with Quocirca. “Windows XP will still be vulnerable to Zero Day exploits, so continuing to use the operating system without any support arrangement is risky.

“Windows XP has been a victim of its own success. It has proved to be a solid, stable and very widely used operating system and as a result it is deeply rooted in the many businesses. However, the time has come to move on from technology that is well over a decade old update to more recent systems.”

Netwrix Combines IT with Neuroscience to Predict and Prevent Security and Compliance Incidents

$
0
0

1 April 2014 – Netwrix, the leading provider of change and configuration auditing software, today unveiled its new ‘mind-reading’ technology, which can wirelessly capture the brain activity signals of IT systems administrators via standard Bluetooth devices to predict their actions before they happen. Using a combination of electroencephalography (known as EEG), Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and an advanced prediction algorithm, the new Netwrix technology is able to understand thought processes and prevent actions that could potentially have an impact on an organisation’s security, compliance or operational efficiency.

The new security risk prediction innovation is the result of a decade of research and development by Netwrix engineers and neuroscientists. The technology captures and interprets neural signals generated by the human brain to record brain activity, understand patterns and determine thought processes as they are happening. The low-amplitude electromagnetic brain activity signals are wirelessly captured using the latest advances in Bluetooth low energy technology and then correlated and dynamically mapped onto the person’s actions.

The resulting data is fed into the Netwrix system, which tunes the prediction algorithm and stores the knowledge. Once trained, the system is then able to predict the actions performed by system administrators and send alerts before they happen. The new technology requires no additional hardware investment, since Bluetooth is now included in most endpoint devices, including workstations, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

“We are so excited to be early adopters of this new Netwrix technology,” said Craig Wilson, CIO of Jetson, Krebbs & Thomas, LLP. “I’m not paranoid and I do trust my employees, most of the time, but I like to be in control. Now, I have a way to understand my employees’ thought processes so I can predict actions that can potentially impact security or compliance. The world of IT security will never be the same because of this latest innovation by Netwrix.”

“Netwrix is a visionary leader in change and configuration auditing,” said Michael Fimin, CEO, Netwrix. “This new game-changing technology is the realisation of many years of progressive innovation in both IT and neuroscience.  By seeing into the minds of system administrators we can not only accurately predict their unwanted actions but can help to avoid costly changes and mistakes that may put organisations at risk.”

SAS UK & Ireland gives its partners the power to know

$
0
0

SAS UK & Ireland has announced a three-year channel strategy to extend its big data analytics footprint in the countries. By focusing on partner channel development, SAS will be stepping up to meet market demand for analytics that can assist organisations realise revenue from big data.

According to a recent combined SAS and e-skills UK report, the market for big data analytics is expected to double in the next three years as companies – large and small - require greater insight for effective business decisions. These decisions could deliver revenue through strengthening customer relations, identifying cost-saving operational efficiencies or actively addressing threats such as fraud and mitigating risk.

Working with a range of partners, SAS has two central aims for its channel strategy:

  • Grow its industry-specific solutions footprint. SAS industry solutions, such as fraud frameworks for financial organisations or demand forecasting for retail, can be offered as a complete analytics platform in partnership with system integrators (SIs).
  • Extend the use of big data analytics into more small and medium businesses. Through a combination of function focused and entry-level analytics solutions, and cloud/outsourced service provision, SAS and its channel network will be able to offer organisations a scalable way to realise data’s revenue potential.

Richard Bradbury, SAS UK & Ireland Alliance Director, comments: “Analysing data and finding insight and incremental value from it is becoming increasingly critical to business success and many more companies are looking to utilise their data assets. However, many are holding back because analytics skills are at a premium and knowing where, or how, to start is not always clear. For these organisations, it is the broad bandwidth and skills that SAS and its partners offer that can help them get going or enhance the steps they have already taken to get answers from their data.”

SAS UK & Ireland’s VARs will be focused on using the power of SAS® Visual Analytics to assist small and medium sized businesses starting to understand the value of the data available internally and externally. It’s the most successful SAS product on the market because it allows organisations of any size to get visual answers in seconds.

Another key solution for VARs will be ANSWERS from SAS. This allows organisations to outsource analytics to SAS so they can get access to insights from their data without investment in skills or technology.

The extension to its partner business by SAS UK & Ireland is announced on the back of continued growth in its direct business, where revenue grew around nine per cent in the tough economic conditions prevalent last year. It is also being developed through SAS UK & Ireland’s existing partner base - SIs such as IBM, Accenture, Deloitte, PWC and Ernst & Young; VARs such as Arrow and SCC; and technical and vertical partners including Oracle and SAP.

The FA launches new website for World Cup Year

$

With the draw complete for the group stages at the World Cup, anticipation for the world’s largest single sporting event is beginning to build. The ecommerce site will help The FA promote England’s presence in Brazil along with selling the official merchandise for the FIFA World Cup. As part of the project the FA also merged the Wembley Stadium ecommerce site with the England Store website. This enables customers to purchase stadium memorabilia and tour tickets.

The FA looked at several ecommerce platforms and decided to partner with Cybertill to re-launch www.englandstore.com.

“As Cybertill is cloud based it means there is a single product database. This means that our websites have real time stock levels, so customers can shop with confidence knowing that products are available,” explains Mike Pink, Head of Retail at the FA and Wembley.

“The Cybertill system was the best fit as it is so flexible. It also allows us to manage online and the store, at Wembley Stadium, as one. We have linked the point of sale system to the ecommerce sites, so we are able to pick stock from the warehouse or if required from the shop floor.”

Part of the requirement for the new England Store website was that it recognises members of the Official England Fan Club. There are currently some 15,000 members, and they receive special discount pricing across the website.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with The FA and Wembley on their ecommerce sites,” commented Cybertill CEO and Founder, Ian Tomlinson. “This investment means they have a multi-channel retail system in place which will simplify managing their retail division.”

The Jolly Sportsman Pub in Chesham enjoys seamless pub management with the Casio QT-6600.

$
0
0

London, UK, 1 April 2014: Casio Electronics Co Ltd, have announced that The Jolly Sportsman pub in Chesham, part of the Punch Taverns group, has undergone a dramatic revamp including the arrival of a slick new hospitality engineered touch screen EPOS solution, the Casio QT-6600, creating a monumental shift in pub management assisting in all areas of transaction processing, accounting and stock management.

Debs Wilbee is the popular new landlady of The Jolly Sportsman; “On day one, I started with both a new look pub and an effective new payment and accounting system. Whilst I was aware of the significant advances that an EPOS solution could bring, it was slightly daunting that I hadn’t used such a fully featured system before, but I needn’t have worried. MicroTill, the Casio partner, remained on hand to provide guidance, pre-populate the unit with all drink and food options and it really was straightforward to use and made for a stress free start to life at the pub.”

Speed of service was the first noticeable improvement. Featuring prompt based touch screens through a large, splashproof LCD colour screen that allows servers to whizz through individual dining choices; the QT-6600 seamlessly captures side orders, add-ons, individual cooking preferences and directs them straight through to the linked kitchen printer.  In the back office, centralised reporting became automated back to Punch Taverns HQ, through enhanced connections and ongoing reporting via time and date. (The QT-6600 comes ready equipped with 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports; Internet connection and 6 serial ports to transfer data directly to Punch Head Office). Till reconciliation has also improved. With the previous standalone push button cash register, staff would end up queuing to process orders and monies, with mistakes inevitable, causing increased customer waiting time while the team struggling to reconcile takings with actual drinks and food consumed.  Indeed, the till provided no visibility as to who had served what, no publican highly-valued point-in-time ‘Z’ readings, or, at the end of each day, no direction as to which items needed re-ordering.

Debs notes. “I am confident that since installation, the QT-6600 has dramatically cut busy queue times and prevented mistakes, even on complicated large orders. Even when mistakes do occur, you do not need to embark on the drawn-out process of manually issuing voids and then reconciling them.  You can just press cancel and start the order again.”

The QT-6600 provides a real-time window on what is being sold. “The ability to drill down on takings, or understand what’s popular on the menu that day, or to reconcile stock levels, even when you are not barside, is nothing short of a Godsend. The QT-6600 provides me with ongoing re-assurance that stocking levels are accurate and optimised, according to popularity of items.”

From both landlady and Punch Taverns’ management reporting perspective, data derived from the QT-6600 is key to form the basis for current turnover and profit and loss; accurate monthly book keeping and easier financial returns; enhanced future sales predictions and to exploit potential areas of growth through understanding customer buying trends. Debs continues “With the QT-6600, it’s all about easy empowerment for the publican and accurate reporting for the pub chain operator. You can derive as much information as you need and increase the level of reporting as your grasp on the business is opened - allowing you to factor in external factors such as seasonal trends, forthcoming promotions and events such as major sporting fixtures.”

World Hosting Days, Rust, Germany, April 1, 2014 –LSI Corporation (NASDAQ: LSI) today announced it has extended the Nytro™ product portfolio with the introduction of the Nytro MegaRAID® 8140-8e8i card. Designed for scale-out server and storage environments with high disk counts and capacity requirements, it provides 1.6TB of onboard flash and 16 SAS/SATA connections. This is double the flash capacity and a 4x increase in the number of ports compared to existing Nytro MegaRAID cards.

LSI® Nytro MegaRAID cards are part of the comprehensive Nytro product portfolio of PCIe® flash accelerator cards. Since introducing the Nytro portfolio in April 2012, the company has shipped more than 100,000 Nytro cards worldwide. The demand reflects the needs of hyperscale Web and cloud datacentres, financial services and other enterprises to accelerate application performance, increase datacentre efficiency and lower IT costs.

“We’re excited to surpass the 100,000 shipment milestone as it underscores the rapid customer acceptance of the LSI Nytro portfolio and its ability to uniquely address customer challenges across a wide range of datacentre workloads,” said Tom Swinford, senior vice president and general manager, Datacentre Solutions Group, LSI. “The Nytro MegaRAID 8140 card provides cloud and hosting companies with a single, integrated solution to simply and cost-effectively scale caching and connectivity to support their customers’ growing performance and storage requirements.”

Nytro MegaRAID cards uniquely integrate PCIe flash and intelligent caching software with LSI dual-core RAID-on-Chip technology to enable simple, transparent application acceleration and RAID data protection for DAS environments. The Nytro MegaRAID 8140-8e8i card integrates an expander into the architecture to provide scale-out server environments with connectivity for up to 236 SAS and SATA devices through 8 external and 8 internal ports. The card’s 1.6TB of onboard flash for intelligent data caching allow server solutions, particularly hyperscale environments such as cloud computing, Web hosting and big data analytics, to maximise application performance where data traffic is heavy.

In addition to using the onboard flash modules to cache frequently accessed data, the Nytro Flexible Flash feature allows users to partition the flash as primary storage for data volumes, allowing latency-sensitive I/O to be stored and accessed from performance-optimised flash. The feature also provides the flexibility to partition the onboard flash for data protection by applying RAID to a defined capacity. Designed with four flash modules, the RAID protection has never been more flexible with the ability to support RAID levels 0, 1 and 5.

The Nytro Flexible Flash feature also allows users to partition the onboard flash as a boot drive. This unique ability to move the boot function to the Nytro MegaRAID card eliminates cost associated with dedicating hard disk drives (HDDs) for operating system boot. Having boot volumes reside on flash also frees up the additional HDD slots for expanding system storage capacity.

A new Advanced Cache Statistics feature exposes critical performance data and enhances the user experience by providing advanced diagnostics designed to ensure production environments achieve optimal caching benefits based on their applications and workloads. Caching statistics such as the number of I/Os completed from cache and the amount of hot data written to cache are provided, as well as host statistics such as the total I/O count, for both reads and writes, sent by the host. The reporting enables the user to properly measure the effectiveness of caching in their unique environment.

National Trust Partners with Blackbaud to Overhaul Volunteer Management

$
0
0

London - 1 April 2014 – The National Trust is investing in its 70,000-strong volunteer network with a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution from software and services firm Blackbaud (NASDAQ: BLKB).

“The National Trust couldn’t operate without our 70,000 volunteers, who contribute more than three million hours every year,” said Mike Elliott, National Trust’s programme manager for volunteering systems and processes. “However, we need to manage and engage with our volunteers in a much better way and a key part of doing that will be the deployment of Blackbaud CRM™. If we get this right, we will free up staff time and ensure that every one of our volunteers has a great experience. This should increase volunteer recommendation and visitor enjoyment KPIs, after all it is our volunteers who deliver a fantastic experience to our visitors.”

The National Trust was founded in 1895 with the aim of preserving some of the most important places across England, Wales and Northern Ireland for the benefit of the public. Today the charity cares for 600,000 acres of countryside, 742 miles of coastline and over 300 historic houses and gardens – enjoyed by 20 million visitors each year (200 million for coast and countryside) and the Trust’s 4.1 million members. The National Trust is heavily reliant on its volunteers, but it was becoming clear that the whole volunteer experience needed to managed more effectively.

Blackbaud CRM will be rolled out on a staged basis, beginning in March with the creation of a database to hold all volunteer data, supporting communication and volunteer management. Currently, the information is held on various systems so Blackbaud CRM will centralise the data in one place in a more secure manner.

The next stages in the roll-out will be:

  • Automated expenses for volunteers, reducing errors and speeding up the current paper-based process for claimant and approver
  • A system to support the creation of volunteer schedules, saving property staff time and giving greater autonomy to volunteers
  • A volunteer recruitment system, making it quicker and easier to attract new volunteers and get them started

The National Trust recognises that not everyone is confident using technology, so it was critical for any new system to be easy-to-use for both staff and volunteers. Another major factor for National Trust was accessibility. With a number of its places in challenging and remote locations, the new system needed to be cloud-based so volunteers could access it from anywhere. After evaluating a range of vendors, National Trust selected Blackbaud based on its ability to meet these criteria.

“We needed a single repository, managed locally but nationally administered,” continued Elliott. “Ease-of-use was vital for us – we aim to have 70 per cent of all National Trust volunteers using the system after one year. If we hit that figure it will make an enormous difference to our entire volunteer management programme.”

Blackbaud and National Trust have already worked closely together on the design of the new system and made a number of enhancements to Blackbaud CRM to suit National Trust’s specific needs.

“Blackbaud CRM is a powerful fundraising and relationship management tool but it is equally valuable and effective when deployed as a volunteer management tool,” said Ash Hussain, Blackbaud Europe’s general manager, enterprise CRM. “When you are as reliant on volunteers such as National Trust, the ability to manage them effectively is mission critical. It has already been a collaborative partnership and we look forward to continuing this throughout the roll-out.”

AdaCore Releases GNAT Pro 7.2 for Android

San Jose, Calif., New York and Paris, - April 1, 2014 – EELive! Conference – AdaCore today announced the release of its latest Ada cross-development environment, GNAT Pro 7.2, for ARM Cortexprocessors running Android. This GNAT Pro product, hosted on Windows and Linux, comprises a complete Ada toolsuite for developing and maintaining Android applications using a mixture of Ada and Java. Developers can now exploit the software engineering benefits of the Ada language, while also taking advantage of the Java libraries and services provided by the Android platform. Applications can also be written solely in Ada, or in a combination of Ada and other “native” languages. Android 2.3 and later versions are supported, on Cortex A8 and above.

A recent trend is the use of COTS portable devices in mission-critical contexts, such as military command and control and industrial process management. In these systems the original OS and consumer-oriented applications are replaced by customised versions that include domain-specific software using proprietary and/or confidential algorithms. GNAT Pro for Android offers developers an attractive solution by generating highly efficient, native ARM code for the algorithms, while giving access to the common Android graphics library for implementing the user interface. And with Ada’s strong typing and other compile-time checks, GNAT Pro and supplemental static analysis tools, such as CodePeer, can detect many errors and vulnerabilities early in the development stage, an especially important advantage in embedded systems where recalls or updates may be expensive or impractical.

“Hand-held devices are becoming a natural part of modern software-intensive systems, in both military and civil arenas,” said Cyrille Comar, AdaCore Managing Director. “High reliability and security are critical for many of these systems, and developers can now take full advantage of Ada 2012 and SPARK 2014 to help meet these requirements.”

Incorporating more than 120 new features, this latest GNAT Pro toolsuite implements the Ada 2012 language standard by default. Some of the new Ada 2012 language features include:

  • Contract-based programming (preconditions, postconditions, type invariants)
  • Enhanced multiprocessor support (multiprocessor affinity and barriers)
  • Enhanced integration of concurrency and OOP
  • Additional language-defined libraries (vector/matrix packages)

GNAT Pro 7.2 includes a new version of GNATbench, the AdaCore plug-in extending Eclipse into an Ada IDE. Along with general enhancements, this new version includes a dedicated plug-in providing end-to-end support for mixed Ada-Java development on Android. Starting with a specific wizard that handles all the project setup details, users need only specify the Ada packages to be called from the Java application. Building the project automatically invokes AJIS, the Ada-Java Interfacing System, to generate all Java code required to call the Ada code, compiles the Ada code into a shared library referenced from the Java side, and makes both available to the Java project. Any changes to the set of Ada interface packages, or to the Ada code in those packages, are automatically detected and handled by the builder. The generated Java is high-level and thus avoids the error-prone direct use of JNI. Furthermore, the Ada and Java code are fully integrated within the IDE, allowing for example navigation within the editors. Finally, debugging the Ada code is supported via the normal Eclipse/CDT debugger GUI.

About AdaCore
Founded in 1994, AdaCore is the leading provider of commercial software solutions for Ada, a state-of-the-art programming language designed for large, long-lived applications where safety, security, and reliability are critical. AdaCore's flagship product is the open source GNAT Pro development environment, which comes with expert on-line support and is available on more platforms than any other Ada technology. AdaCore has an extensive world-wide customer base; see www.adacore.com/home/company/customers/ for further information.

Ada and GNAT Pro see a growing usage in high-integrity and safety-certified applications, including space-based systems, commercial aircraft avionics, military systems, air traffic management/control, rail systems, and medical devices, and in security-sensitive domains, such as financial services. The SPARK Pro toolset, available from AdaCore, is especially useful in such contexts.

Woking, Surrey: 1st April 2014 - Wick Hill is now shipping the WatchGuard Firebox T10, WatchGuard's new network security appliance that allows enterprises to extend powerful network security to small office home office (SOHO) environments.

With 70 percent of high-value employees working at home at least once a week[1], the new solution allows network administrators to ensure robust protection of employees who are often managing the companies' most critical intellectual property. The Firebox T10 features WatchGuard's cloud-based RapidDeploy capability, which instantly self-configures and begins reporting back to the administrator's central console by simply plugging in the appliance.

James Kirpichnikov, WatchGuard product manager at Wick Hill Group, commented: "The T10 device allows small businesses, and business professionals working remotely, to be protected wherever they connect. It encrypts communications and provides total visibility, while instantly isolating and distilling key security issues and trends."

According to a recent global WatchGuard survey of IT professionals[2], more than 82 percent allow employees to access the corporate network from a small office or home office location. However, nearly 30 percent do not require a gateway security device. For those that do, only 23 percent require the use of security products similar to those used in the corporate headquarters, with features such as Intrusion Prevention, AntiVirus, Data Loss Prevention, Application Control, AntiSPAM, and more.

In the same study, WatchGuard also found that 56 percent feel basic VPN access provides the needed protection against today's SOHO threat landscape. WatchGuard's Director of Security Strategy, Corey Nachreiner, says that VPN access is not complete security. "VPN access has long been the standard for protecting communications for home-based employees," said Nachreiner. "However, if your endpoint device is not protected at the same level as your enterprise network, the VPN tunnel simply provides an open window into your business. You need to protect both, and the Firebox T10 is designed to make that easy and cost effective."

As the Firebox T10 rolls out to the market, WatchGuard anticipates the small, cost-effective solution will also appeal to customers seeking full UTM protection for mobile kiosks and carts, such as those used in retail and health care environments, that regularly handle credit cards and personal information -  and must meet the same stringent PCI compliance standards as larger offices and businesses, as well as the NHS's IGLToolkit standard.

Enhanced Visibility, Capability, Speed
The Firebox T10 delivers not only the same powerful UTM capabilities as the company's larger models, including the RapidDeploy functionality, but it also features the company's new visibility solution, WatchGuard Dimension™. This zero-install, cloud-ready tool provides real-time security intelligence, and allows administrators to have big-data-style views of key threats and top site usage across an entire user base. Plus, WatchGuard UTM solutions feature full versions of the industry's best-of-breed technologies including: AntiSPAM, AntiVirus, and URL filtering.

The Firebox T10 is the industry's only enterprise-level UTM solution with comprehensive services for the home office at a reasonable price. Lastly, with the Firebox T10 and the full UTM suite on site, users will not experience the latency normally caused by backhauling traffic thorough the corporate servers to ensure protection.

The WatchGuard Firebox T10 is available now from Wick Hill.

Gartner Report advises Manufacturers to reinvent their business models if they want to profit...

$

0

Analyst firm Gartner has released a report entitled Emerging Technology Analysis: Software Licensing & Entitlement Management Is the Key to Monetizing the Internet of Things that validates Flexera Software's ongoing advice to the manufacturing industry with regards to benefiting from the Internet of Things (IoT).  In essence, simply selling more devices will not result in the massive spike in profits manufacturers are hoping for as they make a play to compete in the Internet of Things.

A downloadable Infographic of the report results can be found here: https://vanillapr.box.com/s/qz82kdmnsldtplpk4k11

The report highlights that in addition to selling more Internet-connected devices, manufacturers will also have to figure out how to make money from the software they develop that flexibly configures their products and powers functionality. They'll also have to leverage software licencing and entitlement management (technology that grants, resolves, enforces, revokes and administers access to entitlements) as the mechanism to capture those additional revenues.

"This report confirms what Flexera Software has been advising its most successful manufacturing customers for years - the software they create to power their intelligent devices has enormous value," said Mathieu Baissac, a software licencing expert on the IoT at Flexera Software.  "By unlocking the value of that software through licencing and entitlement management - manufacturers can simultaneously generate significant new value for their customers and higher revenue for the company, all while lowering manufacturing costs."

According to Gartner's report, the key to monetising the IoT is to use licencing to turn on and off product features and capacity in different combinations to create additional value in the intelligent devices themselves and in the software that runs within them. For instance, manufacturers could provide different product tiers - e.g. basic, premium and platinum - using software licencing to unlock the appropriate features - without having to manufacture separate models. They could then quickly and easily upsell customers later by leveraging software-driven control of the product and licencing to make it easy for customers to upgrade to more expensive models.

Manufacturers can also use different licencing models - like metered or pay per use - to create demand from new types of customers or in new markets.  For example, a hospital previously unable to afford an expensive MRI machine might be able to acquire one using a pay-per-scan licencing model.

"Once you build software licencing into your business model, the opportunities to flexibly configure your products and offer value added services is virtually infinite.  And it doesn't result in an increase in manufacturing costs because you control this all through software licencing and entitlement management," explained Baissac.  "That's why Gartner's report detailing the relationship between licencing and profiting from the Internet of Things is so significant.  It's the first of its kind to provide a roadmap connecting the vision of the Internet of Things with the monetisation process that manufacturers must adopt to profit from it."

By using licencing and entitlement management to monetise the IoT, manufacturers also open up new hardware- and software-related revenue by making it easier to sell new products and services to existing customers on a regular basis, and upsell them as new product features and software versions are released.

"Licencing and entitlement management is a great way to make it easy for customers to quickly and easily access and pay for the latest and greatest capabilities a manufacturer has to offer," said Baissac.  "The Gartner report succinctly lays out the processes and systems manufacturers will need to adopt in order to successfully monetise the Internet of Things and reap the financial rewards that innovating in this area promise, as well as achieving competitive advantage."

Aspect Named Market Leader And No.1 Cloud CTRM Supplier In Industry Survey

$

0

Multi-commodity Cloud CTRM supplier Aspect Enterprise Solutions has been named the market leader and the most well known and recognized vendor in the industry in a newly-published research report.

The Report can be downloaded on the Aspect website here at http://www.aspectenterprise.com/solutions/aspect_ctrm/1404_ctrm_cloud_wp.php.

In the report, CTRM In The Cloud by analyst Commodity Technology Advisory LLC (ComTech), Aspect was voted market leader by more respondents than any of the other 13 vendors listed. Aspect was also recognized as a key vendor in the Cloud CTRM space by the largest number of respondents who named a company. The findings mirror the conclusions of an earlier IDC Energy Insights study which identified Aspect as a ‘major player’ in the ETRM business.

“These latest conclusions show beyond doubt that CTRM in the Cloud is the way the industry is going and that Aspect’s particular take on the technology is the one preferred by more people than any other,” says Aspect’s president and CEO Steve Hughes. “From day one our solution has been built for the Cloud, exclusively for the Cloud, while others have concentrated on reworking on-premise software. It’s clear from this report which way users would rather go.”

Among reasons given in the ComTech report for the rise of Cloud CTRM are substantial savings in acquisition and implementation, its forming a ready alternative to spreadsheet based systems, its ease in meeting highly specialist needs and its role as an interim solution while companies plan for strategic decisions. Also mentioned is the wider acceptance of Cloud delivered solutions in general. Some early security concerns about keeping trading data in the Cloud have now been allayed thanks to online exchange trading and its use of Cloud storage.
